Tributes Flood In For Journalist Rachael Bland

Rachael Bland, a broadcaster for the BBC, who has been publicly documenting her battle with breast cancer in her online podcast, passed away this week.

She had been battling the disease for two years and leaves behind her husband and two year-old son Freddie.

Richard Bacon, who was her friend as well as a colleague, was among those to share a tribute to the journalist. Speaking to the Sun, he praised her for the podcast and her courage in sharing many details throughout her treatment.

“Rachael found a way of turning her last year into something that has helped many people, and will go on helping families for years to come,” he stated.

Bacon added that her podcast, You, Me and the Big C, “can be frank and shocking, yet it’s always breezy and funny”.

The Manchester Evening News reported that her friends have set up a fundraising campaign to help support her son. So far, £5,000 has been donated to the fund.

Talking about experiences with breast cancer, including those that end in tragedy, is important to help raise awareness around the disease, its treatment and how it impacts families as well as those battling the condition themselves.

Olivia Newton-John is well-known for having battled breast cancer and the actress and singer has now revealed that she’s fighting the illness for the third time. She’s also open about the fact that she takes medical marijuana as part of her treatment.
